New Data Elements

Beginning with July 1, 2024, the Sex Data Element is being removed for OQR, IQR, IPFQR per CMS specifications, and TJC. The Sex Data Element, if left in the files for July, will be ignored. There are three new data elements per CMS specifications as outlined below. If the column headers are being added prior to July 1 Discharges/Encounters, they will be ignored.

MassHealth Worksheets will still have the Sex data element, as well as the three new data elements. Once the official CQI is published for July discharges, the worksheets will be edited to comply.

Sex Assigned at Birth This Data Element is required*. The column header and an allowable value are required. A rejection will occur if either are missing from the CMIPPS Demographic Data (Base Data-Inpatients) import file, CMOPPS Demographic Data (Base Data-Outpatients) import file, or HBIPS-EVT Unlimited import file. 

*This data element is optional for Concurrent Abstraction Import Files ONLY.

2 Male

3 Intersex

4 None of the Above, Other, or Unable to Determine

5 Preferred Not to Answer

Gender Identity - This Data Element is optional. The column header is not required, nor are the values. If it is being sent, multiple values can be provided (one or all or anything in-between). A tilde '~' is the delimiter for multiple values. Values should be sent in numeric order.

Sexual Orientation This Data Element is optional. The column header is not required, nor are the values. If it is being sent, one value can be provided.

Medicare Fee For Service was added to the CMIPPS Demographic Data (Base Data-Inpatients) or CMOPPS Demographic Data (Base Data-Outpatients) import files to support the new PRO-PM Module. This data element is optional in the files. Neither the header, nor the values are required. Please note, this data element will be used to qualify cases for the PRO-PM measure, so it should be included if this module will be used.
