Hospital Ranking
Clicking on the Hospital Ranking button next to a measure of interest on the Homepage will take you to the Hospital Ranking module. You will see visually where you rank among other hospitals in our database for the most recent year of data. Your own hospital will be highlighted in grey.
Here we can see that this hospital is ranked 80th. We can scroll through to see how close we are to other hospitals, and even see what rates the top performers have. Other hospital names are masked for confidentiality purposes, but they are actual hospital rates. You can click on the column headings to sort the results. For example, you can click on the Denominator field to sort the results on that field to see how you compare against hospitals with similar Denominator population size.
On the top right of the Hospital ranking module, we can see a graphical representation of where we lie compared to other hospitals for this measure.
The X represents this hospitals rate and where it lies among all other hospitals. For this measure, a higher rate is considered better performance, so the number corresponding to the end of the orange line on the far right represents the rate of the top performing hospital and the number corresponding to the end of the orange line on the far left corresponds to the worse performing hospital.
The box represents the performance of the second and third quartiles with the dashed white line representing the median (the middle performer) and the solid white line representing the mean. In this example, the green X is in the second quartile, so we are in the bottom 50% of performers for this measure.
If we want to see our rank for another measure or time period, we can use the filter on the left of the screen to change our selections.
Once a new measure and time period have been selected, simply hit the “Submit” button on the bottom to reload the module with new results.
