      Concurrent Abstraction Results

      Concurrent Abstraction allows you to begin abstracting Current Inpatient cases and Patients Discharged and Not Final Coded cases that can potentially fall into a measure set. A potential case can be concurrently abstracted, even while the patient is still in the hospital.

      Keep in mind: Concurrent Abstraction follows the algorithm from the Specifications Manual, just like a regular abstraction does.  A Principal Diagnosis Code will need to be manually entered prior to concurrent abstraction, since the worksheet cannot be saved without one. Some cases may need a Procedure Code entered if the algorithm requires one to assess the case.

      Workflow:

      1. Identify Potential Case or Add Potential Cases        
      2. Concurrent Abstraction List     
      3. Concurrent Abstraction Results 

      Concurrent Abstraction Results

      The Concurrent Abstraction Results will display a list of cases for which Concurrent Abstraction has been completed. The measure category assignment or status of a measure - Numerator, Denominator or Excluded will be assigned based upon the algorithm provided by CMS/TJC.

      • Enter a From Date and To Date to view all cases whose discharge date falls between these dates. The added filtering options of hospital and measure are available for the results.

      The Concurrent Abstraction Results Display in the report grid.

      • Measure Status: The Measure Category Assignment - Numerator, Denominator, Excluded or Rejected.
      • Last Required Field: This will tell you the point in the algorithm where the case received its measure category assignment for the measure.
      • Last Element Value: This column displays the value for the Last Required Field.

      NOTE: For Meditech DR clients. It is possible that a case you saved as a concurrent abstraction case will have its status changed to Final Billed. When this happens, there are two possibilities:

      If Concurrent Abstraction for the case was not started, the case is deleted from the Concurrent Abstraction List.

      If the abstraction is in progress or completed, the case remains in the Concurrent Abstraction List, as well as in the Abstraction List.
