Are you frozen in place? In healthcare, it can seem like the problems we face are insurmountable. We are tasked with climbing to the top of a towering, snow-covered mountain of troubles, but we find ourselves standing frozen at the bottom in flip flops, holding a cheese sandwich, without a guide in sight.
What if instead of letting someone else tell us what’s important to our hospital, we start with the basics. What will make our patients safe and happy and better? Instead of focusing on how big our problems are, let’s concentrate on how big our opportunities are. We must be the guide for our hospital, trudging up the mountain. You can be the change for your hospital by understanding the places where we can make a difference and using the things we can control – our decisions, our actions – to help our hospital navigate the tough paths and make a change for the better in the lives of our patients.
